We were tourist for a day.

Waynesville, a few miles away from WCU, is a town flourishing with local art and artist. Having never been there I was excited about all the sculpture work displayed on just about every corner you turn. Lurking through alleys, walking the stores and streets, we were tourist for a day, roaming and taking photographs of everything; we even found a local goodwill packed with surprises, sparking inspiration for a new upcoming project. It was delightful to get away from campus with all the stress of finals approaching.

Passport 4 Fashion

 Fashion has always been relevant in my family; with a collective of artist in one house there's very obvious styles each of us take on. Ciara, my sister, the Creative Director of Four Magazine is a minimalist when it comes to fashion. I on the other hand have always been interested in bold prints and statement pieces. Each distinguished style has been long coming, we've always been contrasting elements in the scheme of things. 

Our most recent collaboration in Charlotte has been for an event called Passport for Fashion, part of the Charlotte Fashion Week. Tanisha Turner, a fashion designer/blogger created an innovative dress for the recycled materials section of the show out of pages from Four Magazine. As part of the press for Four I got the opportunity to shoot for the show and capture great moments of the night.

Sussspring!

I want to dedicate this post to develop a better understanding of Stacy and Suss who we are. I, Angel, have been a dedicated photographer for about 3 years now; and I've always enjoyed documenting special moments for keepsake. I'm currently a Studio Art Major at Western Carolina way up in the Smokey Mountains. Before being interested in photography, (if there ever was a time) I was limited to expressing myself through art and fashion. Now with a new particular skill set, and a high quality camera I can dedicate more time collaborating on every outlet essential in my quest to be expressive. 

Shortly after beginning to learn about photography and tons of practice later I realized that I needed a place to share my experiences, and thats when I came to blogspot. Originally I'd tried tumblr and facebook but with blogspot I feel like I have an audience interested my journey and my art. Stacy is an joke I've carried with me throughout high school and into collage, now its become an alias for social media outlets and artwork and "Suss" just describes the art of adventure (lurking around and snapping photos). Sometimes I just want to appreciate the work for what it is and not who or how its done.

Project: The Drip

As the year progresses I feel my projects are becoming more abstracted; less conventional that is. This week I was influenced by artist/sculpture Andy Goldsworthy. An authentic artist composing completely natural-made sculptures from things you could find on a walk like; leaves, flowers, rocks, bark, limbs, etc.

Originally I wanted to do something very organic and rustic. When I found the bamboo I decided to make an outdoor dreamcatcher or mobile out of things I had found as I roamed. 

When everyone turned in their assignments my teacher complained that we were to predictable and ordered that we redo the project. He gave us the week of spring break to rethink more authentic designs and we would all come back and converge to critique the project again. Distraught by the unexpected redo I was forced to consider other natural elements. While I was home I found these old Fluorescent Candles I got from a thrift store a while ago; as soon as I came across the box an idea sparked.

These candles are designed to melt and drip excessively, what better element to play around with than fire?! But seriously it was unexpectedly sublime, I was so pleased with the results and I had a blast watching it all happen. 

Picked these up for .50 cent at a thrift shop in the area, I knew I wanted to use them, but for what? I didn't know yet.

Initially I was satisfied with the results, and as of now this root beer and bible are bound by the wax. Seeing how I have four more candles to burn I'll probably be doing this project a few more times sporadically in the future.
